One and One Is Four: The Bauhaus Photocollages of Josef Albers at MOMA through April 2, 2017
11/30/16
Joseph Albers isn't known for his photography. It's his drawings and paintings we think of when we hear his name. Or maybe his furniture design. Yet the guy managed, in a short period of time during the late '20s, to make some remarkable modernist pictures, many of which weren't discovered until after his death in 1976. This exhibition focuses on his photo-collages which are strikingly personal and intimate, given the era in which they were made. For me, the show exposed me to a whole side of Albers that I had no idea existed, and made me appreciate his work all the more. -TM
