I was still relatively new to the world of freelance editorial photography when a major New York magazine called in my book. I couldn’t believe my luck!

There was just one problem: I didn’t have a book. I hadn’t assembled a physical portfolio, thinking it unnecessary in the digital era, and I was out of the country when the call came. So… could they just look at my website?

The editor explained that she preferred taking bound portfolios into meetings so that everyone could pass them around and assess the work firsthand. I’ve learned that this method remains the standard with many editors and art buyers, with websites representing an initial point of introduction. Unprepared and unable to respond immediately, I missed out on that opportunity.

Shopping around, I discovered that custom-made portfolios were really expensive, and the store-bought options I found left much to be desired.

A reference from another photographer led me to Pina Zangaro’s website, where I was delighted to find several choices for presentation that matched my taste. A company rep responded to my e-mail immediately and was refreshingly accommodating to boot – I love to give business to a company like that!

I procured two of the Rossano screw-mount portfolios: one to send out, another to carry with me. The clean, classy look shows off my work well. Preparing prints for binding has proven quick and easy with Pina Zangaro’s adhesive strips, which hold firmly but don’t call attention to themselves. I can rapidly change out prints to present a different look to each prospective client I’m seeing with full confidence in the book’s construction. These portfolios come with a protective jacket, a thoughtful addition which ensures the work stays intact with repeated shipping and handling.

Within a week of my first presentation to editors, I had earned three assignments. I received positive feedback on my images and on the book, reaffirming my decision to go with the Rossano. The product looks great, it’s easy to use, and I can rely on Pina Zangaro’s customer support. I can’t believe my luck!
