Since I am primarily a book designer I prefer showing my work in a book format over a box or case format. I like the Vista Snow Portfolio Book because it is clean and modern. While it’s a neutral container for my design work, it’s also an extension of my design sensibility. It’s important for me to show that I can work in a variety of different ways, from more traditional and classic, to clean and modern, to hip and contemporary. Since my work includes things like classic cookbooks, fun how-to craft books and traditional fiction, the portfolio itself rounds out my presentation. I chose a subtle etching for my name that allowed me to design a bold treatment without it becoming too overwhelming. Along with the etching, the 11 X 14 size also contributes to the book’s more personalized feeling as it’s not a default paper size. I can easily print the pages on 11 X 17 and trim one side to fit. That one cut gives me a far more pleasing proportion with very little effort.
